It seems strange doing a blog post about Twitter (it ‘being the new blogging’) when Blackpool does not seem to have really got its head around the idea of blogging yet!? However (with thanks to Darren Rowse and TwiTip) – here we go……
Twitter is the ‘new’ blogging – albeit micro-blogging in 140 characters or less! But how do you open an account and get started? The following explains how to get up and running. For a print-ready version of these notes download Twitter – Open an Account from Scribd.
Step 1: Go to http://twitter.com.
When you get to Twitter.com, you’ll see this page:

Step 2: Click the Join the conversation! Green Box
This page will appear:

Step 3: Create a Username.
If you are using this twitter account for your organisation, then you can use it’s name (ie. http://twitter.com/Barnardos).
Add your password, and email address.
Type in the security code then click “I accept, Create my Account” (it is always wise to check out the terms and conditions you are signing up to).
Step 4: Start networking!
Twitter asks for your email information. They state very clearly that they wont allow your information to be used anywhere without your permission.

Here’s what the next page will look like:

Twitter goes through all your email addresses to see who is already registered with Twitter – probably not many locally in Blackpool. You can pick which of your new “Twitter Friends” you want to add.
There’s also an option where you can invite non-Twitter users to set up Twitter accounts – it looks like this:

Step 5: You are now an official Twitter User!
The easiest way to get started with Twitter is by using it! Interact with people you already know – click on their user-name and hit the Follow button.
Most Twitterers will reciprocate and follow you.
